The busyness of the holidays is over and many of us are just noticing that we’ve packed on a couple of spare pounds. Our stockings aren’t the only things that got stuffed this season. If your underwear is fitting just a touch too tightly, that’s a good sign that it’s time to reverse those holiday habits. Here are a couple of healthy tips to get your birthday suit back to its finest form:
Eat healthy, don’t deny. Fad diets are just that, fads. Skip the complex games and focus on fuelling your body. Instead of cutting out certain foods, limit them. Portion control is a realistic and effective way to shed those extra pounds without causing a yo-yo effect. Did you know that eating well-balanced meals and snacks every 2-3 hours actually improves your metabolism? That’s right, eating more often is better for you!
Drink loads of water. And I mean loads of water. Your body needs water to function regularly. Not only that but it improves your complexion, increases energy, flushes out toxins, prevents cramps and sprains… the list goes on! That means whether you’re out on the slopes or hitting the dance floor, you’ll look great and you’ll be less likely to hurt yourself. The general rule is to drink half of your body weight in water every single day. For example, if you are 200 pounds, you should be drinking 100 ounces of water a day.
Keep your body moving! It’s tempting to get sedentary when the temperature drops, but resist the urge! Get creative, the gym isn’t the only place to get a good workout. Explore the city and do some urban exploration on foot. Start geocaching. Take a yoga class. Integrate some new moves into your dance routine. These are all ways to keep moving and challenging your body. If you do something you love, the appeal won’t die away two weeks after you start.Remember that a healthy lifestyle is a continuum, not a destination. Fuel your body, keep it watered, and keep it moving! Start the New Year out right with these tips in mind. You’ll look great and feel even better!
